Funbox - Bringing the world of edutainment to schools world-wide
Their aim is to prepare children for a future global, competitive workplace via the creation of interactive, engaging products that are connected to the real world. They are Funbox, a women-led start-up based in Barcelona that produces edutainment products for the educational sector.
One of the founders, Corsica Ramirez, recently gave an interview to buildingBridgesSpain in which she states the company already has plans to open branches abroad, particularly in Latin America. Corsica is a Mexican who spent many years working in the videogames sector before helping to launch Funbox. The other co-founder, Jimena Josue, had managed the audiovisual department of Claret Editorial for several years, before helping to build this educational start-up.
One area they have not fallen short of since starting-up, is in the awards arena. For example they were winners at SeedRocket 2012 and also a finalist at Wayra Barcelona 2012. This success in start-up contests has meant they have made a name for themselves within the investors and start-ups hemisphere, and are building business relationships and signing countries in places like Uruguay, Mexico and the US.
I can't think of a more future-proof aim than creating digital content and technological support for schools - no doubt the competition will remain tough, but so far Funbox have shown they have the capability to produce applications of such a high standard that they maintain a reputation for quality products.
