Key players in Start-ups i) Jesus Encinar
I’m going to write brief descriptions of key players in the Spanish startup scene – these are well-known within the country but sometimes not so famous outside of Iberia. Today I will start the series with Jesus Encinar.
Jesus Encinar is the founder and CEO of Idealista.com the leading real estate portal in Spain. After studying/working abroad, he came up with the idea for this web after seeing a basic ads site in San Francisco in the 90s named Rentech. The Idealista site was launched in 2000, and to this day has remained the market leader in this field, with over 200 employees helping to keep data up-to-date. It is also incidentally a great source of articles (in Spanish) on the property market in Spain.
Jesus has not rested on his laurels however. Using the search/database knowledge he gained with Idealista, he also founded 11870.com which is a major directory listings site in Spain for services and supplies. He was also one of those behind TopRural.com , a rural holiday travel portal for all Europe, that was bought up in 2012 by HomeAway.
One thing appears to be clear – if Jesus Encinar is involved in launching a Web company, it has a very good chance of obtaining success and establishing a secure foothold. You can follow his tweets on Twitter here.
